Thackeray (1811-1864) was a British writer. Born in a bourgeois family and well educated. When he became an adult, he inherited his father's inheritance, but quickly squandered it all and had to make a living for himself. He first learned to draw, then engaged in writing, wrote for newspapers and periodicals, publishing essays, travel notes, medium and short stories, etc. He is a prolific writer with a collection of 35 volumes. The masterpiece novel "Vanity Fair"(1847) created a typical image of the aristocratic bourgeoisie of the 19th century in England, exposing their debauchery, stupidity, incompetence and moral corruption; the author called them "a group of extremely stupid and selfish people who recklessly commit evil and passionately pursue fame and gain." Thackeray profoundly revealed the real relationship in capitalist society from his private life. Cynicism and cynicism are important features of his novels, but he also sometimes reveals sadness. The novel "The Newcomb Family"(1853-1855) is a grand picture of British social life in the 19th century on scale, but sentimentality diluted the critical spirit of realism. His most famous works include the historical novel "Henry Esmond"(1852), which is set in the late 17th century British bourgeois revolution.
