Twenty-seven years ago today, on August 12, 1998 (June 21, 1998 in the lunar calendar), China Unicom officially issued the local telephone business, breaking the telecommunications monopoly. On August 12, 1998, China Unicom Tianjin Branch officially issued the local telephone business. This means that the long-term monopoly situation of China Telecom's exclusive operation of the local telephone market has been broken, and the majority of local telephone users will also enjoy the unprecedented right to choose. China Unicom is approved by the State Council and is the second large-scale enterprise in our country jointly initiated by the Ministry of Electronics, Ministry of Power and Ministry of Railways to operate basic telecommunications services and value-added services. Since its establishment in 1994, it first entered the mobile communication market and competed with China Telecom. Due to historical reasons, as long as China Telecom adjusts the settlement method of "cross subsidy", it can put Unicom in a position of inevitable loss. Therefore, operating local dialects is one of the necessary prerequisites for fair competition between China Unicom and China Telecom. Only by building its own network can Unicom get the ticket to enter the local dialect market. After a lot of hard work, all the technical problems of interconnection between the two sides have been resolved. On August 13, the general agreement between Tianjin Post and Telecommunications Public Communication Main Network and China Unicom Tianjin dialect network was officially signed. After the rules were formulated, Unicom Tianjin dialect network began to operate, and the competition between the two sides in the local dialect market officially began. The greatest significance of the opening of China Unicom's Tianjin telephone network is not how many telephones can be installed and how much money can be discounted for the common people.
