On July 13, 2012 (May 25, 2012 in the lunar calendar), Pan Jiazheng, a senior academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, passed away. Pan Jiazheng was born in a bookish family in Shaoxing on November 12, 1927. This child, whom his father called a "stupid bug", his greatest hobby was reading. He was a famous water conservancy and hydropower engineering expert in China, a senior consultant of the State Grid Corporation, a former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He passed away at 12:01 on July 13, 2012 in a Beijing hospital at the age of 85. Mr. Pan Jiazheng was not only a well-known scientist at home and abroad, but also an enthusiastic writer of science fiction creation. His science fiction novels are ingenious and bold in concept, rigorous in science, and rich in human touch. The writing is vivid and concise, the language is humorous, and the material selection and description are not conventional. They are thrilling and imaginative to read. Mr. Pan Jiazheng is enthusiastic about youth education and the popularization of science, and takes a "localized science fiction road". While disseminating scientific knowledge and ideas, his works also involve all aspects of social life. They are called "social science fiction".
