Twenty-nine years ago today, on August 16, 1996 (July 3, 1996 in the lunar calendar), the first International Symposium on Mao Zedong's Poetry was held in Beijing. On August 16, 1996, nearly 100 Chinese and foreign scholars and poetry lovers gathered in Beijing to hold the first International Symposium on Mao Zedong's Poetry. Mao Zedong was a revolutionary leader of the Chinese people and a poet with extraordinary poets. According to reports, among the 56 poems he has published publicly, the earliest one was written in 1915, and the latest one was written in 1965. It can be said that he used poetry to express his emotions and accompany this great revolutionary and statesman through his life. Mao Zedong's poems were not only deeply loved by the people of our country, but also attracted many foreign friends and scholars. At present, there are hundreds of research experts at home and abroad who have studied dozens of monographs. Mao Zedong's poems have been translated into English, Japanese, Russian and many other texts and distributed all over the world. He Jingzhi, president of the China Mao Zedong Poetry Research Association, said in the opening speech of the seminar that Mao Zedong is the first to have a huge impact on our ancient country and the world with a small number of poems. In his poems, the great spirit of the Chinese nation is condensed, making people appreciate the sense of liberation and dignity that stands up from a century of humiliation. Scholars from China and Japan, Canada, the United States and Hong Kong and Taiwan will conduct extensive research and exchange on the historical connotation, philosophical implication, aesthetic style and national characteristics of Mao Zedong's poems. The seminar was jointly sponsored by the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the China Mao Zedong Poetry Research Association.
