Eighty-eight years ago today, on August 21, 1937 (July 16, 1937), China and the Soviet Union signed the Non-Aggression Pact. On August 21, 1937, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Fenghui and Soviet Ambassador to China Borg Molov signed the Sino-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact on behalf of their respective governments. The treaty stipulates that the contracting parties "rebuke war as a method of settling international disputes" and "agree not to commit any aggression against each other alone or in conjunction with other countries or a majority of countries." The treaty also stipulates that "if one of the two contracting states is invaded by a third state or states, it is agreed by the contracting states that during the entire period of the conflict, no assistance, directly or indirectly, shall be rendered to the third state, and no action shall be taken, or any agreement shall be concluded, which may be used by the aggressor state to commit acts against the contracting state that is being invaded."
