The Battle of Camden (English: Battle of Camden) took place on August 16, 1780, 10 kilometers north of what is now Camden, South Carolina, USA. It was a battle in which the Kingdom of Great Britain (Great Britain) completely defeated the United States in the American Revolutionary War, strengthening British control over the Carolinas. Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis led the British army with 2,100 troops; Major General Horatio Gates led the American army with 3,700 troops.
