On this day, 94 years ago, August 6, 1931 (June 23, 1931 in the lunar calendar), the third counter-encirclement and suppression war began. After Chiang Kai-shek suffered a disastrous second "encirclement and suppression" campaign at the site where the Red Army annihilated the Kuomintang army in Huangpi, only one month later, it gathered 300,000 troops to launch a third "encirclement and suppression" campaign on July 1, 1931. Chiang Kai-shek personally served as commander-in-chief and rushed to Nanchang to take command, and invited military advisers from Germany, Japan and Britain to participate in war planning. The Kuomintang army adopted a three-pronged joint attack: the middle route was Nanchang, the right route was Ji 'an, and the left route was Nanfeng to attack the Central Revolutionary Base Area. It wanted to use the tactics of driving straight in and dividing into joint attacks to implement "encirclement and suppression". Under the command of Mao Zedong, the 30000-strong First Army of the Red Army still adopted the policy of luring the enemy into depth, avoiding the enemy's main force, and using part of its troops to attract seven divisions of the enemy's main force to the west and northwest of Xingguo. The main force rushed eastward on August 4. On the 6th, 1 brigade of the enemy's 47th Division was wiped out in Liantang. On the 7th, two regiments of the 54th Division of the enemy were wiped out in Liangcun, and on the 11th, four regiments of the enemy's 8th Division were wiped out in Huangpi, Ningdu. On September 1, one brigade of the enemy's 9th Division was wiped out in Laoyingpan; the main force of the enemy's 19th Route Army was wiped out in Xingxingwei. On the 15th, the enemy's 52nd Division was wiped out in Fangshiling. In this battle, a total of 7 enemy divisions and 17 regiments were wiped out, more than 15000 people were captured, and 20000 guns were surrendered. The third counter-"encirclement and suppression" campaign achieved a major victory.
