On the 8th, the Japanese army concentrated 100 artillery and 30 tanks to support the infantry to cross the Lijiang River and break into the urban area of Guilin. The officers and soldiers in the city fought with the Japanese invaders in street battles and fought tenaciously. Due to the Japanese invaders' attack with tanks, armored vehicles and flamethrowers, the Chinese army suffered heavy casualties. On the morning of the 9th, the city defense headquarters was razed to the ground under the bombardment of Japanese aircraft, and the command system completely failed.
