Born in Saxony to a Zwickau bookseller family. He learned piano and composition since childhood. In middle school, he was deeply influenced by romantic literature. He studied law at the University of Leipzig and the University of Heidelberg. In 1830, he switched to music and devoted himself to composition and music criticism. 1830-1840 During the years, he wrote a large number of piano works, showing his creative talent. In 1834, the "New Music Newspaper" was founded in Leipzig, writing a large number of music commentary articles, promoting the artistic ideas of democracy and progress, and opposing the banal and vulgar atmosphere. He has composed more than 100 vocal songs. and symphonies, concertos, chamber music, dramatic music, etc. The work has a distinctive romantic color, full of fantasy and lyricism.
