Italy and Spain send naval ships to help “global robust fleet”

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, September 26th. After the "Global Tenacity Fleet" delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip was attacked by drones and communications interference on the 24th, Italy and Spain respectively sent naval ships to the waters where the "Global Tenacity Fleet" is located.

Italian Defense Minister Guido crosetto said on the 25th that Italy expressed its "strongest condemnation" of the attack on the "global tenacity fleet" and that it was "unacceptable" to attack such civilian ships. The Italian Ministry of National Defense said later that day that the Italian Navy frigate "Alps" would provide assistance to the "global tenacity fleet", but would not undertake escort tasks.

The main task of the Italian navy is to help Italian citizens in the "global tenacity fleet". Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said earlier that there were dozens of Italians in the fleet.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on the 24th that Spain has dispatched a ship to provide assistance when the "global tenacity fleet" needs it. Another high seas patrol boat is scheduled to depart from Cartagena, a port city in southeastern Spain, on the 25th to join the "Global Tenacity Fleet".

The "Global Fortitude Fleet" has more than 50 ships from many countries and regions, seeking to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip and transport aid supplies by sea. The fleet said earlier on the 25th that it was still sailing at a low speed in Greek waters and planned to sail into the high seas later that day.

The "Global Fortitude Fleet" identified the attack on the fleet as related to Israel, but the Israeli military did not respond. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for an investigation into the attack on the flotilla.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that the "Global Tenacity Fleet" was associated with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), but the fleet denied this statement. The Israeli Foreign Ministry said on the 22nd that Israel will not allow any ship to enter the war zone or break the Israeli naval blockade.

According to Reuters, the Italian government has proposed to dispatch aid supplies in Cyprus by a “global resilience fleet” in exchange for a third-party distribution in the Gaza Strip. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Israel supported the plan. Italian Democratic MP and fleet member Arturo Scotto said the fleet was considering the plan.
