The president is not right, and Zelensky also looks aside and makes major concessions

In the video, Zelensky clearly stated that he was prepared to no longer run for president after the end of the conflict in Russia and stressed his responsibility is to end the war, not to seek a re-election.

He also added that if a ceasefire agreement was reached with Russia, he would ask parliament to hold presidential elections, and he would not be a new presidential candidate.

This is not the first time that Zelensky talks about the issue of staying, but this time the tone is clearer and the attitude is closer to a commitment.

At present, the Russian-Ukrainian front is still in a state of intense sewing, and overall there has been no large-scale decisive breakthrough, but the Russian troops launched a new round of offensive in the direction of Donetsk, trying to break through to Dnipro Petrovsk.

In addition, the Russian side has also conducted new infiltration operations in the border area of the state of Sumei, while the Ukrainian army relies on limited resources to defend.

At the same time, Russia continues to launch intensive drone and missile attacks, focusing on Ukraine's power facilities, transportation hubs and training bases to intensify pressure on the rear.

Combined with the situation on the battlefield, Zelensky is indeed getting closer to the critical point.

The Ukrainian army has long been in a defensive position, consuming enormous amounts, and the pace and quantity of Western aid is difficult to meet demand, resulting in increasing pressure on the battlefield.

The Russian military pressures and deep strikes through multiple directions, so that Ukraine must not disperse its forces at different times to prevent breakthroughs, which makes it difficult for the Ukrainian army to organize an effective counterattack.

The rear infrastructure has been destroyed one after another, energy, electricity and transportation are all being impacted, and the lives of ordinary people are under tremendous pressure.

Under such a situation, Zelensky must not only maintain morale, but also face domestic and foreign doubts about his legitimacy and governance capabilities. He is in a difficult situation.

Zelensky is able to carry it now, because his domestic allies have always supported him, but now this situation is also collapsing, the internal questioning is growing, and it may be difficult to end without the proactive withdrawal.

Another factor is from Russia.

Putin has repeatedly stressed that those who sign the peace agreement must be legitimate representatives of the regime, otherwise they cannot accept any terms.

The meaning of the phrase is clear: Russia does not recognize the political legitimacy of Zelensky in wartime conditions, in the prolonged period of prison, and believes that it cannot represent Ukraine.

Under this framework, Russia's attitude is that it can talk with Zelensky, but will not sign a final agreement with Zelensky.

This means that even in the event of a ceasefire or a negotiation process, Russia will either select signatories through legality issues or delay a legal deal.

Lavrov and other senior Russian officials have also said that key issues must first go through long consultations among senior officials, and cannot be directly decided at the presidential level.

This position is in fact a denial of Zelensky, which both weakens his space for negotiation and strengthens Russia’s initiative in the game.

In these circumstances, Zelensky stated that he no longer served as president after the war, which was, to some extent, a major concession to Russia.

Looking back to Zelensky’s previous statements, the attitude has indeed changed.

In 2023, he explicitly refused to hold elections in time of war, calling it irresponsible.

At the end of his term in May 2024, he relied on the strict state to remain in office, stressing that this was a normal arrangement under the legal framework.

In early 2025, he openly stated that he had not yet decided whether to re-elect, saying that was not his current goal.

He later said that he was willing to give up the presidency if it could be in exchange for peace, which had a stronger diplomatic strategy.

In September, for the first time, he made a clear promise in the international media that if the war ended, he would not participate in the new presidential election as a candidate.

This series of changes shows that he has completed a turning point from his initial resolute stay in office, to his vague attitude in the mid-term, and now to his voluntary giving up.

Of course, in the end, it depends on what he does, not what he says.
