When US President Trump was at the UN General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu became narrower and narrower under the condemnation and "containment" of many countries.
According to Xinhua news agency, Netanyahu arrived in New York on the 25th and attended the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly on the 26th.
Netanyahu had previously travelled to the United States six times, flying over Greece, Italy and France, but this time he flew over the Mediterranean, from southern Spain through the Strait of Gibraltar, and briefly through Greece and Italy, bypassing France and Spain.
Analysts speculate that Netanyahu's "long detour" is to circumvent the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Galante. The two men were charged with crimes including deliberately launching attacks against civilians and deliberately depriving Gaza civilians of basic supplies on which they depend.
Several European parties to the International Criminal Court have said that Netanyahu will be arrested on the basis of an arrest warrant once he appears in their territory.
For Netanyahu, the shorter route is over France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and the United Kingdom, but these countries have all signed the ICC statute.
In July, UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese criticized Italy, France and Greece for providing a "safe passage" when Netanyahu flew to the United States.
French diplomats said France had previously approved the Israeli transit, but it was unclear why Netanyahu suddenly changed his position. Just a few days ago, France announced the official recognition of the Palestinian state. Slovenia’s statement was more direct.
In addition to Europe, Japan, a U.S. ally, has no longer “moved” Israel. Japanese diplomatic sources said the U.S. demanded Japan not to recognize the Palestinian state during the UN General Assembly and urged Tokyo to remain united with Washington.
In a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that Japan acknowledged the Palestinian state was only "a matter of time" and expressed "strong indignation" over Israeli officials' public rejection of the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In addition to the official voice, folk protests also came one after another. Some Israeli expatriates organized protests outside Netanyahu's hotel on the 25th, holding slogans such as "Stop the war", "No military solution" and "Take them home", demanding that Netanyahu's government cease fire in the Gaza Strip and allow the detainees to be released.
