U.S. government announces tariffs on goods such as medicines and heavy trucks

Xinhua News Agency, Washington, September 25th US President Trump announced on the 25th that from October 1st, the United States will impose a 100% tariff on all imported branded or patented drugs; 50% duty on all kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets and related products, and 30% duty on upholstered furniture; Impose a 25% tariff on heavy-duty trucks manufactured outside the United States.

Trump tweeted on social media: “From October 1, 2025, we will impose a 100% tariff on all brands or patented drugs unless the relevant companies set up pharmaceutical factories in the United States.”

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, due to the impact of tariff policies, furniture prices in the U.S. market rose by 4.7% year-on-year in August 2025.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce previously called on the U.S. government not to impose new tariffs on heavy trucks. The American Chamber of Commerce pointed out that the top five source countries of heavy truck imports in the United States are Mexico, Canada, Japan, Germany and Finland. "These countries are allies or close partners of the United States and do not pose a threat to the national security of the United States."

The U.S. Supreme Court announced on September 9th that it would quickly review the legality of most tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, and is scheduled to hear oral arguments in the first week of November.
