A major U.S. jury decided to sue former FBI director Comey.

A large jury of a federal district court in eastern Virginia decided on September 25th to prosecute former FBI director James Comey on charges such as “false statements” and “interference with congressional procedures”.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy accused the former U.S. government of “armed up” federal law enforcement agencies in a statement that said the Comey prosecution “reflects the Justice Department’s commitment to prosecuting those who abuse power and mislead the American people.”

He also said Comey was “corrupted” and was “one of the worst people in his country’s history” and “has long been seriously harming our country and is now finally beginning to take responsibility for his crimes against the country.”

Comey posted videos on social media denying the allegations against him. He said: "My family and I have known for years that there will be a price to dare to stand up to Trump … We will not live on our knees." Comey, who described himself as "innocent," felt "heartbroken" for the U.S. Department of Justice.

The allegations against Comey originated from his testimony at the U.S. Senate Justice Committee hearing in September 2020. At the time, Comey insisted in questioning that he had never been authorized to leak information to the media about Trump’s “Russian Door” investigation. And according to a 2018 report from the U.S. Department of Justice, Comey’s deputy deputy Andrew McCabe said Comey had authorized him to leak information to the media.

On September 20th, Trump posted on social media, asking the US Department of Justice to take action against Komi and others. According to the Washington Post, the White House recently forced a prosecutor previously in charge of Comey's case to leave his post and was replaced by a former personal lawyer of Trump.

Comey, who served as Director of the FBI from 2013 to 2017, investigated whether the Trump campaign team had conspired with Russia to interfere in the U.S. election (the “Russia Gate”) and was fired during Trump’s first presidential term. In 2018, Comey published a book titled “Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership” after being fired, accusing Trump of being “morally unfit to be president.”
