After the US Washington Post exclusively disclosed the hundreds of senior generals deployed by the U.S. military around the world, and suddenly called back to the news of a meeting in the United States by U.S. Secretary of Defense, President Trump responded to the matter.
According to a follow-up report from the Washington Post, Trump told the media on Thursday afternoon local time that the massive summoning of U.S. generals back to the U.S. is not a big move. Vice President Watson also said that it is not unusual for the Defense Secretary to summon the generals back to the meeting.
Earlier, the Washington Post exclusively disclosed that Hertz had suddenly dispatched U.S. troops around the world earlier this week without a clear reason, with hundreds of generals and senior officials in conflict areas led to a notice asking them to meet next week at a naval base in Virginia.
The Washington Post called the move "extremely unusual" and said opponents feared that party political factors were behind his move.
In a statement Thursday, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the summit of generals, saying the meeting would be held next Tuesday, but did not disclose the reason.
Trump said he would also attend the meeting “if they need it.”
