China Representative to Human Rights Council Calls for Improved Global Human Rights Governance

Xinhua News Agency, Geneva, September 25 (Reporter Shi Song) Chen Xu, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, attended the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on the 25th and made a speech, calling on all parties to improve global human rights governance.

Chen Xu made a joint statement on behalf of nearly 80 countries, pointing out that multilateralism has been severely impacted at present, and all parties should improve efficiency, simplify procedures, eliminate duplication and strengthen transparency through the 80th anniversary reform of the United Nations. He is willing to put forward five initiatives: First, pursue sovereign equality, and all countries, big or small, strong or weak, rich or poor, have the right to participate, make decisions and benefit equally in global governance; Second, abide by the international rule of law, ensure the equal and uniform application of international law, and avoid double standards; The third is to practice multilateralism, discuss, build and share benefits, and oppose unilateralism; Fourth, advocate people-oriented and promote all kinds of human rights in a balanced way; Fifth, pay attention to action orientation, strive for practical results, promote the improvement of global human rights governance, and jointly open up bright prospects for peace, security, prosperity and progress.
