Poland with the Chinese neck of Central Europe, Kazakhstan initiatively asks: from us, operate
Poland with the Chinese neck of Central Europe, Kazakhstan initiatively asks: from us, the operation capacity is more than doubled

On the 23rd local time, Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister Rumangarin told Bloomberg that Kazakhstan is also working hard to promote economic transformation and get rid of the situation that "the economy depends entirely on oil exports".

On September 12, Poland suddenly announced the closure of its eastern border with Belarus because of the security threat. This move, like a brake on the busy trade artery in Central Europe, left Belarus with about 300 trains filled with electronic products, auto parts, photovoltaic components and other goods. It is important to know that behind these goods are the expectations of countless companies and the demand of both ends of the Eurasian market.

Poland reopened its borders at 0 a.m. on September 24 local time, but this time, Poland’s important position in Central Europe was threatened.

During the period when Poland closed its border, China and Russia actively cooperated to trial the Arctic waterway, trying to weaken the impact of Poland's border closure on China-EU trade. What is even more unexpected is that Kazakhstan seized this opportunity and stood up decisively.

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Zhu Mangalin said that goods from China are expected to continue to grow significantly as Kazakhstan plans to build new railways and transportation channels through its eastern part.

He also noted that the volume of rail transportation from China through the international transportation routes across the Caspian Sea bypassing Russia will increase from the current 4.5 million tons to 7 million to 10 million tons in the coming years. This can be more than just a shift in numbers, it means that Kazakhstan is expected to transition from a “innerland country” to a “land coalition” and become a new important hub for trade in Central Europe.

In fact, the cooperation between China and Kazakhstan has long been founded. China has been Kazakhstan's largest trading partner for many years in a row, last year, the trade volume of the two countries broke $43.8 billion, and China's railway freight volume reached a record of 32 million tons. In July this year, China also signed a trans-Kashmir transportation cooperation agreement, a series of railway interconnections, port terminals construction, standard matching work are progressing orderly.

This initiative of Kazakhstan is undoubtedly good news for China. The Central European ferry transportation, which was originally in trouble due to the move of Poland, now has new options. This “middle corridor” of turning Turkey into Europe through the Caspian Sea through the port of Akkuta in Kazakhstan, from Xinjiang to Horgos in China, is gradually showing its potential.

Poland may not have imagined that it would be able to rearrange the Central European ferry transportation route in exchange for its own deliberate move, and its position in the Central European ferry line may be greatly weakened as a result. Poland’s “geographical advantage” appears to be slowly turning into a “strategic burden” when Kazakh railway workers are laying railways in the desert, and when a cargo ship departs from a Chinese port to the Arctic.

In the twists and turns of this China-Europe freight train, we have seen the complexity and changeability of the international situation and the delicate relationship of cooperation and competition among countries. Kazakhstan's initiative has undoubtedly added new hopes and possibilities to the sustained and stable development of China-EU trade.
