According to the Ecuadorian police report, at around 3 am on the 25th, a suspected rival gang conflict occurred in a prison in Esmeraldas province, during which gunshots were heard. Preliminary investigation shows that at least 17 people have been killed in the conflict.

On the 22nd, riots in a prison in the city of Machala, in the southwestern province of Eloro, killed 14 people, wounded 14 people, and several prisoners escaped.

In recent years, the security situation in Ecuador is poor, and gang conflicts have led to frequent violent incidents. According to official statistics, since February 2021, riots in Ecuadorian prisons have killed nearly 600 prisoners.
