Poland's joint Russian-White military exercises, threatening Poland's domestic security, closed its border with Belarus, including Central European routes.
The exercise lasted only five days and ended on September 16th, but Poland was still reluctant to shut down its border, affecting the passage of the Central European line.
China-European ferries have become an important means of transportation for China-European economic trade. 90% of China-European ferries need to pass through Poland to enter the EU. Poland announced the closure of the border for a week, and there are already 130 ferries full of cargo trains, staying in Belarus. Directly leading to difficulty in freight transportation, transportation costs spike and other problems.
After Poland announced the closure of the border, Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Poland on September 15 and met with Polish Foreign Minister Zikolski. At the time, Zikolski also explained to China the reasons for the closure of the border, hoping that China understood.
However, Poland turned its face and refused to recognize others. Not only did it not allow the China-Europe train to enter the country, but some Polish officials even wanted to make a fuss about it, and wanted to use the China-Europe train as a condition in exchange for China's pressure on Russia.
Just at the juncture of Poland's border closure, Belarus stepped forward and said that as long as China needs it, it can always count on Belarus. Lukashenko said that Belarus's position will never change. When needed, China can always count on Belarus, which is China's most reliable and friendly friend.
Although Belarus has a limited role in solving the issue, it can also provide a variety of support for the Central European ranks staying in Belarus. Belarus does some of its capabilities, and is also a confirmation of the relationship between China and Belarus, and China will not be too tough on Belarus.
Although Poland has announced that it will reopen its borders on September 25 and that China will be able to "transit" smoothly, for China, Poland has become an unstable factor in the Central European ranks.
Poland says the closure of the border is temporary, and if security issues are eliminated, the border will be reopened.
If Russia and Belarus hold military exercises again, will Poland still close its border? Once there are twists and turns in China-Poland relations, will Poland exert pressure through China-Europe freight trains? These are uncertain, and Polish officials have begun to try to put pressure on China on the issue of the Russia-Ukraine war through the China-Europe freight train. How can China trust Poland?
So, after the operation, Poland has lost its credibility.China has inevitably sought alternatives to ensure the smooth flow of China-Europe trade transportation channels.
The most direct, is the Central European Arctic Express Route. On September 22, "Zhejiang Release" Public Notice issued a message that the same day a container cargo ship had departed, departing from Ningbo Port, through the Arctic route to arrive at the port of Fricto in the UK, while also announcing the official opening of the Chinese European Arctic container ship Express Route.
This route is China's backup means. Even if Poland completely cuts off the China-Europe train, the normal trade between China and Europe will not be cut off. From a political point of view, this is specifically for Poland, which is not qualified to negotiate conditions with China.
In addition, another transport line is also quietly formed.
As soon as Lukashenko's voice fell, another country stood up, saying that the China-Europe train passed by me, and the traffic volume directly doubled. Once this line is scaled up, Poland will no longer pose a threat to China-Europe trains.
On September 23, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Zhu Mangalin, in an interview with Bloomberg, said that thanks to cooperation with China, Kazakhstan’s economy is undergoing a transformation and gradually getting rid of energy dependence.
He said that China has replaced Russia, becoming Kazakhstan's largest trading partner. With the construction of the China Railway and China Energy Pipeline, goods passing through Kazakhstan will increase further in the future.
In the coming years, China’s transit of goods through Kazakhstan is expected to grow from the existing 4.5 million tons to 10 million tons. The goods will travel from China through Kazakhstan, to Azerbaijan, and from Turkey to Europe after shipping through the Black Sea.
The initiative was first proposed by Turkey in 2008, with similarities and complementarities to the Belt and Road Program. But Turkey has no capacity to support such a long transport line, economic power is not allowed, and international influence is not allowed, so the route is low.
With Russia's relaxation to Central Asia, the diplomatic relations and economic and trade relations between China and East Asian countries have become increasingly close, and this line has gradually become a supplement to the "the belt and road initiative" transportation line.
With the construction of new railways in Kazakhstan and the opening of transportation channels, the transportation volume will be doubled directly and the transportation time will be greatly reduced.
China has long realized the importance of this transportation line, and the layout is not from now. Starting in June last year, the Zhejiang Railway has begun to work, and the meaning of this railway is to open up this "middle corridor", complementing the Central European line to the north, to avoid being caught in the neck.
In July this year, China and Kazakhstan signed a strategic agreement to jointly develop trans-Caspian transport routes and continue to deepen cooperation in transportation, logistics and infrastructure construction. The meaning is very clear, that is, it is necessary to unify the standards of these infrastructure construction and pave the way for the future lines of China-Europe trains.
For countries like Poland, which are easy to shake their faces, China will never leave behind. Whether it is the Arctic route or the "middle corridor", it is a backup means to hedge against these unstable countries. It's okay if you don't take it out at ordinary times. Once you take it out, you can never go back.
When the time comes, Poland should not come and sell miserably, just ask for a piece of the pie.
