According to Reuters, according to French law, public buildings must not be used as platforms to express political, religious or philosophical views. However, local officials say that the Ukrainian flag is not only displayed on the Eiffel Tower, but even projected on it. Regarding the accusation of "double standards", the French Ministry of the Interior responded that the war in Gaza has triggered protests and tension in France, and displaying the Palestinian flag in public buildings may trigger public unrest.

The French Ministry of the Interior also said that as of the evening of 23rd, 86 city halls across France had flown the Palestinian flag. Previously, the Ministry of the Interior asked local government representatives to block such actions because they violated France's "neutrality principle".
