Brazilian Finance Minister: U.S. Tariffs Will Eat Its Own Benefits

Recently, the United States imposed an ad valorem tariff of 40% on Brazilian products exported to the United States, and most Brazilian products exported to the United States face tariff rates as high as 50%. Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Ada said in an interview with the media in Sao Paulo on the 23rd,U.S. tariffs on Brazilian goods, especially on bulk commodities, will only be effective.

ADA pointed out that the most direct victim of U.S. tariffs is the decision of U.S. consumers to lack thought, and there is no point in raising taxes on commodities, which will only make the American three meals a day more expensive.

He said the U.S. tariffs have indeed impacted some sectors in Brazil, but the Brazilian government has reacted quickly and has developed an emergency plan to support domestic enterprises. He revealed that two-thirds of Brazil's exports are currently unaffected by tariffs, and half of the affected commodity exports have shifted to other markets.

ADA stressed that the U.S. tariffs are based on false information, and have no basis in Brazil, neither politically nor economically.

Recently, the U.S. imposed tariffs of 40% on U.S. imports from Brazil, and most U.S. exports faced tariffs of up to 50%, while also targeting Brazil's legal trial of former President Bosonaro, provoking strong dissatisfaction between the Brazilian government and public opinion.
