Brazil expresses “strong indignation” over U.S. sanctions on Pakistan’s Supreme Court judge’s wife

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on September 22, expressing its “strong indignation” at the U.S. government’s announcement that it has sanctioned the wife of Brazil’s Supreme Court judge, Alexander de Morais, and one of its associated agencies.

The statement said that the United States once again interfered in Brazil's internal affairs with false reasons as the basis for imposing sanctions. The Trump administration of the United States used the Magnitsky Act to impose sanctions on Brazil not only damaged the relationship between the two countries, but also politicized and misinterpreted the application of the Act by the United States. "Brazil will not succumb to this further violation".

Brazil's Federal Supreme Court announced on the 11th of this month that former Brazilian President Bolsonaro was convicted of planning a coup and sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison. Bolsonaro became the first former president in Brazilian history to be convicted of planning a coup. On the same day, U.S. Secretary of State rubio posted on social media calling it "political persecution", saying that the U.S. will take corresponding measures.

On the 22nd, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bescent accused de Moraes's wife of providing her husband with a "financial support network". Earlier, De Moraes was sanctioned by the United States under the Magnitsky Act in July.
