Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on September 22 that Poland, as a NATO member, would not hesitate to shoot down objects that violate its airspace and pose a threat, but would take a more cautious approach to less clear situations.
Tusk said: "We will decide to shoot down aircraft that violate our territory and fly over Poland, which is absolutely unnecessary to discuss."
He also said: "When dealing with situations that are not completely clear, such as the recent Russian fighter planes flying over Baltic drilling rigs-but without any violation, because these are not our territorial waters-this situation really needs to be thought twice before deciding whether to take actions that could trigger a very serious conflict."
