Impacted by U.S. tariffs, Belgian exports to the United States fell 12.1% from May to July

On the 22nd local time, data from the National Bank of Belgium showed that from May to July this year, the total value of Belgium's exports to the United States dropped by 12.1%, and the monthly drop in July was as high as 13.9%, mainly due to the 15% tariff imposed by the United States on EU goods exported to the United States.

Among them, passenger car exports fell by 45%, chemical and pharmaceutical industries fell by 30% and 20% respectively, and the diamond and technology industries also suffered shocks. Last year Belgium's total exports to the United States amounted to €27 billion, of which more than half were pharmaceutical products. Due to the drop in exports greater than imports, Belgium's trade with the United States shifted from a €600 million surplus in 2024 to a €2.2 billion deficit between May and July.

Analysts point out that given the U.S. Trump administration often sudden changes in policy, companies in Belgium and other EU countries are watching. Even though the U.S. and EU have reached a 15% tariff agreement, the specific exemption products are not clear, and enterprises are generally waiting for further changes.
