Kim Jong-un: if the United States no longer demands the denuclearization of North Korea, there may be a dialogue between the US and the DPRK

According to a report from the DPRK news agency, the secretary general of the DPRK Labour Party and chief of state Kim Jong-un said on the 21st that if the United States abandoned its attachment to North Korea's denuclearization and acknowledged the reality, and hoped to truly coexist peacefully with North Korea, there is no reason for the DPRK not to communicate with the US side.

According to reports, the 13th session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK was held in Pyongyang on the 20th and 21st, and Kim Jong-un made the above speech at the meeting on the 21st. In his speech, he also mentioned that he himself has "good memories" with US President Trump so far.

But Kim Jong-un made it clear that North Korea could never give up its nuclear weapons. He said that while the new US and South Korean governments are open to dialogue with North Korea and seek to improve their relations, they will never change the essence of weakening North Korean forces and overthrowing the North Korean system.

Kim Jong-un said North Korea "will not sit face to face with South Korea or do anything together."

Li: North Korea's nuclear freezing is a viable plan

On the 22nd, the office of the President of South Korea on the remarks made by Secretary-General of the Labour Party of North Korea and State Chairman Kim Jong-un about the "abandonment of denuclearization as a prerequisite for the DPRK-US dialogue" said that "we will provide support for the DPRK-US dialogue and strive to build a nuclear-free peninsula".

In addition, South Korea’s President Li said in an interview with British Broadcasting Company on Friday that the North’s nuclear freezing is a feasible solution as a temporary measure, saying South Korea could accept it if Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reached an agreement on the freezing of nuclear weapons.

He also stressed that “I believe that as long as we do not give up the long-term goal of denuclearization, it will inevitably benefit North Korea from stopping nuclear missile research and development.”

According to Reuters, South Korean President Li Keqiang said in an interview with the media that if there were no safeguards in the stagnant trade negotiations to accept the existing requirements of the United States, then South Korea would face a situation similar to the financial crisis of 1997.

“If there is no currency exchange, and we pull out $350 billion in the way that the United States demanded and invest all that money in cash into the United States, then South Korea will face a situation similar to the financial crisis of 1997,” Lee said.
