Britain warns Israel against retaliation over Palestinian bid for statehood

On the 22nd local time, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said in an interview with British media that she had warned Israel not to take retaliatory actions by annexing parts of the West Bank because Britain recognized the Palestinian state.

Cooper did not disclose when the British Consulate General in East Jerusalem would be upgraded to the Embassy in Palestine. She only said that the Consulate General would continue to operate during the diplomatic process with the Palestinian National Authority.

British Prime Minister Stammer announced on September 21 that he recognizes the State of Palestine, and Canada, Australia and Portugal made the same statement, while Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on September 21 issued a statement that a Palestinian state would not be established and that there would not be a Palestinian state on the West Bank.
