Key U.S. allies announce recognition of Palestinian state, U.S. Department responds

According to AFP, a US State Department spokesman responded on 21 local time to the announcement of the recognition of the Palestinian state by key U.S. allies, including Britain.

“Our focus remains on serious diplomacy,” a U.S. State Department spokesman said, adding that U.S. priorities are clear, including the release of detainees and ensuring Israel’s security.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on September 19 that France would recognize the State of Palestine on September 22, when Britain, Canada, Australia and Portugal announced the official recognition of the State of Palestine. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on the same day that there would be no Palestinian state. Palestinian President Abbas welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine.
