On September 21, the German Air Force said it had sent two European fighters to intercept and track a Russian Ir-20M aircraft entering the neutral airspace of the Baltic Sea.
According to Reuters, the German Luftwaffe said in a statement on September 21st: "Our rapid reaction alert force once again received a NATO mission to send two European fighter jets to verify an unidentified aircraft with no flight plan and no radio contact in international airspace."
The statement said: "After visual identification, this is a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft. After visual identification, we have handed over the surveillance responsibilities of the aircraft to our NATO partners in Sweden, and then returned to Rostock-Lage."
Two informed officials revealed on September 21st that the NATO North Atlantic Council will meet on September 23rd to discuss "Russia's violation of Estonian airspace".
According to reports, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace without permission on September 19 and stayed in the airspace for a total of 12 minutes before being forced to evacuate.
