'It only creates fear' Trump administration halts annual hunger survey in the US

On September 20, local time, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the termination of the future Family Food Security Report, which is also known as the U.S. Annual Hunger Survey, to monitor and study food insecurity in U.S. households, and to allocate funds based on research data.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the survey based on the questionnaire is “subjective”, “data overwhelmed with errors”, fails to accurately describe “real food security situation” and has not produced any substantial results. Despite the aid scheme’s spending increasing by more than 87% between 2019 and 2023, the trend to expand food insecurity is almost unchanged.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has made it clear that “The Home Food Security Report 2024 will be the last, and will be released on October 22, 2025.”

The latest data shows that 13.5% of U.S. households are in food insecurity in 2023, the highest record since 2014. Official U.S. data show that economic growth has slowed in recent months and new jobs have been exhausted. Trump chose to ignore these facts and recently fired the head of statistics. Trump insisted that his policies (tax cuts, tariff increases, regulatory easing, fighting immigration, prioritizing U.S. workers) are showing results.
