[Zelensky accuses allies of "wasting time"] According to the British Guardian website on September 20, Ukrainian President Zelensky is preparing to meet U.S. President Trump next week during the United Nations Assembly in New York, when he will urge Trump to impose sanctions on Russia.
Zelensky said that if Putin refuses to hold face-to-face talks with him or refuses to agree to a ceasefire, he hopes to further impose sanctions, he said: “If the war continues and there are no peaceful initiatives, we want sanctions.”
Zelensky expressed disappointment at the pace of events when speaking to reporters in Kiev, including the Guardian. He said the possible imposition of sanctions by the United States was "linked" to requiring European countries to take first action, which was in fact "reducing pressure on Putin."
Zelensky said in the presidential office: “President Trump wants Europe to take tough action. I think that if we don’t implement sanctions or take some of the measures we expect him (Trump) to take, we’re wasting a lot of time.”
Zelensky said he hopes that “the whole of Europe” will implement sanctions. He said Trump could “push” European countries to take more action. He also said that the pro-Russian government in Slovakia could respond to U.S. pressure. He said: “Everyone is looking forward to the United States.”
He reiterated his willingness to meet Putin in any form, whether one-on-one or in a "tripartite" form with the presence of the President of the United States. (Compiled by Zheng Guoyi)
