According to AFP, the US government announced on September 20 that it would no longer evaluate the "food insecurity" situation in the United States annually on the grounds that the measure was "too politized" and "not helpful".
In a statement to AFP, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said: “After continued review of plans and economic reports, the U.S. Department of Agriculture will stop publishing the Home Food Safety Report.”
The USDA said the report "has become overly politicized and, upon review, it has been found to be unhelpful to the work of the Department." This news was first disclosed by The Wall Street Journal.
"The 2024 Household Food Security Report will be the final and will be released on October 22, 2025," USDA made it clear.
The report will cover the last year of Democratic President Joe Biden’s tenure.
The report, based on a large-scale survey, aims to estimate the “food insecurity” situation, i.e. the unstable proportion of households who have sufficient quantities and quality food needed for all members of the family.
The latest data shows that 13.5% of U.S. households are in food insecurity in 2023, the highest level since 2014.
According to reports, the U.S. Department of Agriculture questioned the method of investigation. The Department said on the 20th: "The issues used to collect data are completely subjective and cannot truly reflect the actual state of food security."
Economic growth has slowed in recent months and new jobs have dried up, official US data shows. Trump chose to ignore these facts and recently fired the head of the statistics department.
Trump insists that his policies (tax cuts, tariffs, regulatory easing, fighting immigration, and hiring American workers priority) are showing results.
