The Ministry of Health of Burundi informed on September 20 that from the beginning of September to the 18th, a total of 1,014 confirmed cases of cholera have been registered nationwide, and at least six people have recently died of cholera in the western province of Bujumbura. Liriana Enken Gurucer, Director of the Public Health Emergency Action Center of the Burundi Department of Health, said that local, multi-sector collaborative approaches should be adopted to address cholera. Residents in affected areas should strictly observe hygiene measures, regularly wash their hands with soap, and use clean water in daily life. In some areas of western Burundi, there is a shortage of clean water in the dry season from June to September every year, so local residents often get sick due to poor sanitary conditions.
