Ukrainian News Agency reported on September 20 that Ukrainian President Zelensky said on the 19th that he will meet with US President Trump during the United Nations General Assembly in new york next week. He hoped that the United States would confirm its previously promised security guarantee for Ukraine.
Zelensky will lead the Ukrainian delegation to the meeting in New York on September 23-29.
Zelensky said: “We have laid the foundation for security, given that the United States will participate in it, and Europe is willing to accept this foundation. We have conducted a lot of discussions and dialogue at various levels, and our military and General Staff have conducted leadership-level communication and dialogue with Europe and the United States. The British Prime Minister has met with the President of the United States and has reached a consensus that we will discuss relevant topics in bilateral talks in New York (with Trump).”
He stressed, “I’d like to get these signals personally and see how much progress we’ve made in pushing the goal of providing the security we need for all our partners.”
According to the Ukrainian Interfax news agency, Zelensky said: "(At that time) a large number of bilateral talks will be held, covering areas such as business, technology, defense and mineral agreements. In addition, a large-scale economic conference will be held."
According to the Ukrainian state news agency, the last meeting between Zelensky and Trump was held at the White House on August 18. The core topic of that meeting was to discuss a peaceful solution to Russia's war in Ukraine.
Trump had previously said he was willing to provide security to Ukraine, but did not specify the specifics. However, he ruled out the possibility of sending U.S. troops as peacekeepers.
