On September 20, local time, UN Secretary-General Guterres, through a spokesman, expressed serious concern over the rapid deterioration of the situation in the city of Fashir, the capital of Darfur, northwestern Sudan. The statement said that Fashir had been besieged by fast-paced support forces for more than 500 days, with recent attacks on civilians further escalating. The statement noted that most of the residents of the Abushuk displaced camp were forced to flee due to ongoing artillery and raids. On 19th, a mosque was attacked, killing dozens of civilians. The Secretary-General reiterated that the parties to the conflict must immediately cease fire, respect and protect civilians, ensure safe, free and continuous access to humanitarian aid, and provide a safe passageway for any civilians who voluntarily evacuate. The statement emphasizes that civilians are suffering the greatest pain of this devastating conflict.The Secretary-General calls on all parties to immediately engage in genuine dialogue, mitigate violence and return to the negotiating table to seek lasting solutions. On April 15, 2023, Sudanese armed forces and fast-paced support forces broke out in the capital Khartoum, after which the war spread to other regions. The armed conflict, which lasted for more than two years, has killed 30,000 people and displaced more than 12 million. Darfur is one of the main battlefields of the conflict. The region is governed by five central states, and the other four states have been controlled by fast-paced support forces.
