Water supply crisis in South Africa’s largest city

The water supply crisis in Johannesburg, South Africa's largest city, has lasted for more than three weeks, while parts of the region have suffered from long-term power supply disruptions.

Johannesburg has been facing great water supply pressure for a long time. Directly affected by the aging and failure of equipment, pipeline rupture and other factors, some communities in Johannesburg have been unable to supply water normally or even completely cut off water for many days. The municipal government promised earlier this month to restore water supply within seven days.

Some parts of Johannesburg have suffered electricity shortages and even continuous power outages over the course of the day. In the Horton region, the power supply has been interrupted for more than 50 hours since the early morning of the 18th. Local residents say it is the first time such a long power outage has been recorded.
