Breaking-News >> WorldNews Saudi Arabia and Pakistan sign joint strategic defense agreement
The signing of a joint strategic defense agreement between the government of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan continues to raise concerns.According to the latest Reuters report, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randy Jaiswar said on 19 local time that he hoped that Saudi Arabia would fully consider the common interests and sensitive concerns between the two countries when dealing with bilateral relations. The government of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan officially signed a joint strategic defense agreement in Riyadh, Saudi capital, on Thursday.According to the agreement, third-party attacks on either country of the two countries will be considered "aggression against both countries."The agreement was signed at the time of diplomatic turmoil in the Middle East, just months after the conflict in India and Pakistan. Jaiswal said at the weekly press conference on the 19th that "India and Saudi Arabia have an extensive strategic partnership, which has been significantly deepened in the past few years." "We hope that this strategic partnership can take into account the common interests and sensitivities (concerns) between the two countries." The report mentioned that Jaiswal also stated on Thursday (18th) that the Indian side was aware that the agreement had been under consideration and would study its impact on India. The Hindustan Times, which also reported on the matter, said that the signing of this common strategic defense agreement came at a time when Arab countries questioned the reliability of the United States as a security partner, especially after Israel's recent attacks on Iran and Qatar. At the same time, India and Pakistan also had military confrontations before. Reuters also mentioned that Saudi Arabia is one of the major countries exporting oil to India, and the two countries agreed this year to strengthen cooperation in the supply of crude oil and liquefied oil gas. India's Prime Minister Modi said this year that the two sides are also exploring joint projects in the refineries and petrochemical fields. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman issued a joint statement after the talks with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif on Friday, saying the two sides signed a joint strategic defence agreement, reflecting the two sides’ joint commitment to strengthening national security and achieving regional and global security and peace, aimed at developing defence cooperation between the two countries and strengthening joint deterrence against any aggression.
