Addressing Potential Threats U.S. Counter-Terrorism Center Prompts Law Enforcement to Strengthen Security Measures

CCTV reporters learned on September 19th, local time that the National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) of the United States stated in a memo to law enforcement agencies that Al Qaeda and its Yemen-based branch Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) may try to use its media publications and global conflicts to motivate potential attackers, especially in areas where the United States provides support or military intervention.

The memo urges government officials to raise safety awareness, avoid being monitored, not publicly publish or share travel plans, schedules and locations, and remove badges and other identity cards outside of work.

The memo also warned of potential threats to venues where large crowds gather, including sporting events and music events, and recommended increased deployment of law enforcement forces at these events, along with security measures briefings held prior to events. (CCTV reporter Xu Tao)
