Chinese Embassy spokesman asks reporters

On September 19th, the spokesman of our library answered a reporter's question on the open letter issued by individual Romanian parliamentarians on Taiwan-related issues. The contents are as follows:

Q: On September 19, nine Romanian lawmakersly issued an open letter calling on the Romanian government to develop official relations with Taiwan.

A: We have noticed that individual Romanian lawmakers have spoken on social media, misrepresented the one-China policy that the Romanian government has always pursued, and put forward some claims that undermine the one-China principle, and we strongly oppose it and are seriously concerned about it.

The one-China principle is the recognized norm of international relations and the general consensus of the international community, and is the political basis for China's establishment and development of relations with all countries.

For a period of time, the Taiwan authorities, using the pretext of exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economic and trade, science and technology, cultural education, and other fields, attempted to break the iron wall of the international community adhering to the one-China principle, expand the so-called "international space", abruptly took the tricks of opening the way, bribery, and lure, and attempted to set up new institutions in some countries, inducing the relevant countries to cross the boundary on the Taiwan issue, "wipe the edge", and undermine China's relations with relevant countries.

China has always resolutely opposed any form of official exchanges between any country that has established diplomatic relations and the Taiwan Province authorities. It is hoped that relevant politicians in Romania will recognize the sinister intentions of the Taiwan Province authorities, abide by the one-China principle with practical actions, and earnestly safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations.
