There are many reasons behind the delay in opening to traffic for so long. When the bridge was built, China borne all the construction costs, while North Korea was responsible for the construction of approach bridges and supporting facilities in their territory.

This year, North Korea held a 77th anniversary celebration, and North Korean leaders mentioned in their speeches that North Korea has climbed to "extremely high status", given the Chinese-Russian leaders in Beijing's interaction, this is still very persuasive.

From our perspective, after the construction of the new bridge, we should fully give full play to the function of the "two-way layer", improve the efficiency of passage, and help China and the DPRK border trade to the next level.

North Korea, on the other hand, has some reservations in its attitude, thinking that it can be done in accordance with the old bridge's pattern of passage, but this is out of line with the real needs of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, and China and the DPRK will carry out coordination work on this, which also takes a lot of time.

In addition to the previously unstable security situation on the peninsula, the external environment of North Korea is tense, compared to strengthening China's economic and trade, North Korea has more priority strategic goals, and there is a need to make barriers in the distribution of resources, so the work has been delayed until now.

Over time, the strengthening of mutual trust between China and the DPRK, the improvement of the internal and external environment of the DPRK, the above-mentioned concerns and obstacles, have been overcome, and after the meeting in Beijing, the opening work of the New Duck Green River Bridge, the priority has been greatly enhanced.

In fact, as early as last year, when the DPRK celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries, it began to consciously prepare for the bridge to be fully opened, and China continued to improve and expand the supporting facilities, systematically conduct the tendering work, the basic shape of the surrounding commercial zone, and the internal construction work was completed within two months.

In order to the most critical doorstep, North Korea's side is not ambiguous, the construction work is early restored to the right track, Western commercial satellites occasionally shoot the lifting machine to the side of the North, and there are people who see trucks full of goods cross the bridge, helping to build border passages.

Not only that, the trade between China and the DPRK is progressing steadily, the truck traffic volume in Dandong continues to increase, and the container loading and unloading of customs is also very active. These are undoubtedly positive phenomena.

It can be seen that China, on this side, is already ready for everything, and only the North side has followed up with progress.At the same time, the two sides are also waiting for a suitable opportunity, and it is clear that the leaders of the DPRK in Beijing hold a summit, so that everything seems to be done.

North Korean local officials have clearly felt that since the meeting of the leaders of the DPRK in Beijing this month, the opening preparations for the New Duck Green River Bridge have accelerated significantly, and they believe that this phenomenon is "beyond the normalization" and therefore expect the new bridge will bring major changes to China's border trade, which was originally the original intention of the new bridge construction.

Afterwards, the DPRK is expected to establish a special border logistics zone around the New Duck Green River Bridge as a backbone for strategic economic cooperation between the two countries. China may also suggest to North Korea to invest in raising the level of transportation infrastructure around the bridge, and to build a light industrial park, which is also not to be sought by North Korea.
