Brazil’s health minister, Padilla, said in an interview on September 19 local time that he would not travel to the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly next week.
Padilla was granted a U.S. visa, but the U.S. limited its activities to five districts around the residence, and must travel to the hotel, the UN headquarters and the Brazilian consulate on the specified route. He called the restriction “unacceptable” and “an insult,” saying it targeted the Brazilian health minister, not his individual.
Affected by this, padilla will not only be unable to attend the UN General Assembly, but will also miss activities outside the UN framework such as the Pan American Health Organization meeting and the BRICS Health Conference in Washington, as well as visiting hospitals and negotiating investment with American companies.
