About 265 kilograms of heavy water leaked from South Korea's Wolseong nuclear power plant

The South Korean Atomic Energy Safety Commission informed on the 19th that a heavy water leak in a nuclear power plant in the southeast of the country occurred on the same day, and no radiation abnormality has been found.

According to the Korean Associated Press, the heavy water leakage was on the 19th of the month at the Moon City Nuclear Power Station unit 2 in Qingdao Qingzhou. The South Korean Atomic Energy Security Committee estimated that as of noon on the same day, the heavy water leakage amounted to about 265 kilograms.

When the leak occurred, the unit was undergoing a routine shutdown inspection period, according to the South Korean Hydropower Atomic Energy Company, which operates the unit, which immediately shut down the nuclear pump after monitoring the leak.

This is the second leakage incident by the Moon City Nuclear Power Plant since this year.On January 12, when Moon City 2 was operating normally, about 29 tons of unanalysed nuclear waste was thrown into the ocean in the storage tank.
