The next day,The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) said: existPort of Piraeus Greece2,435 containers were seized.
This is the largest container case captured by the European Union so far. The seized goods amounted to more than €25 billion, including electric bikes, textiles and shoes from China.
This criminal network is mainly controlled by Chinese, and controls the whole circulation chain of goods imported from China to the EU.
The EPPO also said it has filed charges against six people, including two customs officials.
EPO estimates that the fraud lasted for at least eight years, resulting in unpaid customs losses of approximately €3.5 billion and VAT losses of €4.5 billion in similar operations.
Since the June raids, Greek customs authorities have observed higher rates of compliance, with importers in the Piraeus port declaring similar goods at prices closer to the actual value.
Authorities confirmed that evidence gathering is underway and that more suspects are likely to be arrested as investigators examine the seized containers and trace the flow of money related to the operation.
