Xinhua News Agency, Colombo, September 19 (Reporter Che Hongliang) The Atana water supply project in Sri Lanka, undertaken by Chinese-funded enterprises, was completed and put into use on the 18th, which will provide reliable and clean water for more than 600,000 local residents.

The completion and commissioning ceremony of the project was held in Gampeha, Sri Lanka on the same day. Hundreds of people including Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, senior officials of the Sri Lankan government, and representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises attended.

At the ceremony, Sri Lankan Foreign, Employment and Tourism Minister Virgita Herat said that the Atana water supply project is of great importance.Sino-Sino relations are close, and China is assisting Sri Lanka in Atana water supply and other projects, making the ties between the two countries stronger.

The completion of the construction of the Atana water plant will not only improve local public health and people's living conditions, but will also inject new vitality into local economic and social development, which is another milestone in the field of major people's livelihood infrastructure cooperation between the two countries.

Sheikh, deputy general manager of China Mechanical Equipment Engineering Co., Ltd., said that the Atana water supply project is equipped with a daily water treatment capacity of 54,000 cubic meters, and is supported by high-efficiency pumping, water storage pools and 590 kilometers of pipelines, delivering water reliably to every community.

It is that the total investment of Atana's water supply project is approximately $2.3 billion, undertaken by China Mechanical Equipment Engineering Co., Ltd.
