Trump plans to regain the Bagram air base in Afghanistan and tame China, foreign ministry responds

On September 18, local time, U.S. President Donald Trump, who was on a state visit to Britain, held a press conference with British Prime Minister Stammer. During the meeting, he again accused Biden’s policy in Afghanistan of being “a complete catastrophe” and believed that the United States could have “strongly and dignely” withdrawn its troops while retaining control of the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. Trump also told reporters that his government was preparing to take back the Bagram Air Base. He not only repeatedly stressed the “strategic value” of the base, claiming it was “necessary”, but even engaged in a hard-hunt with China, speculating that “the base was close to China’s nuclear weapons facilities.”

At the regular press conference of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs held on September 19, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said in response to a question from a foreign media reporter "What is China's comment on this?" China respects Afghanistan's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the future and destiny of Afghanistan should be in the hands of the Afghan people. I would like to emphasize that exaggerating tension and creating confrontation in the region is unpopular, and I hope all parties will play a constructive role in regional peace and stability.
