Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, September 19 (Xinhua) Hungarian officials once again stressed on the 18th that Hungary opposes stopping the import of Russian fossil fuels in advance without feasible alternatives, and hastily reducing energy imports from Russia will endanger national energy security.

Official of the Hungarian energy ministry, Lloyd Oenico, said at the 18th meeting of the EU Environment Council that Hungary is one of the few inland countries in the EU, ¡°Our position has always been oriented towards Hungary¡¯s energy security.¡±

After the conflict between Russia and Ukraine escalated in an all-round way, the European Commission proposed a legislative proposal in June this year that the EU would gradually stop importing Russian natural gas and oil by the end of 2027. Hungary and Slovakia objected to this. Hungary pointed out that energy policy belongs to the scope of national sovereignty, and the plan proposed by the EU will threaten Hungary's sovereignty and energy security.

On Monday, Hungary¡¯s European Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Boko Haram reiterated that Hungary has consistently supported the diversification of energy supply routes and sources, but ¡°without tangible alternatives, there is no reason to discuss reducing dependence on Russian fuels, otherwise there will be problems in ensuring security of supply.¡±

He stressed that the Hungarian government ¡°will never agree to a scheme that undermines Hungary¡¯s (energy) security.¡±
