The result of the vote was 14 in favor, and the United States voted against。
The draft calls for an immediate and unconditional permanent ceasefire in Gaza; The Council demands the immediate, dignified and unconditional release of all detainees held by the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other groupsCalls on the Israeli government to immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on humanitarian aid access to Gaza, to ensure the safe and unhindered distribution of humanitarian supplies to large volumes of Gaza people in need, and to ensure the full restoration of all basic services.
In response to the U.S. veto of the Gaza-related resolution in the early morning of the Security Council today (19 September), China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Fujin, said in an explanatory speech following the vote:China is very disappointed with the outcome of the vote.
Ambassador Foucault also sent out the "three questions of the soul":How many innocent lives are still to be killed in Gaza before a ceasefire can be achieved? how many tragedies are still to happen, and how much humanitarian supplies can be delivered?
The Chinese side will continue to work together with the international community to promote the calming of the war in Gaza, the mitigation of the humanitarian disaster, the implementation of the “two-country plan”, and ultimately to a comprehensive, fair and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
