Breaking-News >> WorldNews Cambodian News Ministry Advisor Joe Okuda: Let us unite and fulfill our duty of bringing people closer
The 11th ASEAN-China, Japan and South Korea "10 +3" Media Cooperation Seminar was held in Kunming on the afternoon of September 17th. The theme of the seminar was "Interconnection, Co-construction and Win-Win". Thirteen mainstream media representatives from different countries delivered speeches or made keynote speeches on this theme, and many media guests exchanged dialogues on topics such as "creating new kinetic energy and sharing new opportunities". Joe Chandara, consultant of the Ministry of Information of Cambodia, delivered a speech at the seminar. The following is the full text: Ladies and Gentlemen, Gentlemen, Gentlemen and Gentlemen: On behalf of the National Communications Agency of Cambodia (AKP) and the Cambodian media, I am honored to speak at the 11th ASEAN-China-Japan-Korea (10+3) Media Cooperation Seminar. This forum is not only a gathering but also an important platform for building bridges that connect our voices, visions and shared values. We gathered in Kunming on the theme of “Connecting and Win-Win” and reaffirmed the media’s vital role in fostering understanding, trust and solidarity between countries, which is important in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and ASEAN-China-Japan-Korea (10+3) cooperation mechanism. In an age of rapid global change, the media has a unique and irreplaceable responsibility to build unity rather than division. We are tellers of false information and seekers of truth to build public trust. As we deal with the complex situation of polarization and geopolitical turmoil, it is more important than ever to adhere to truthful, objective and timely reporting. For Cambodia, the "the belt and road initiative" initiative has opened up new and important channels for interconnection, trade and cultural exchanges, and made far-reaching contributions to Cambodia's social and economic development. As a firm partner in this process, the media plays a key role in ensuring that these stories of win-win cooperation and common development can be clearly and completely conveyed to the Cambodian people. Cambodia is a member of ASEAN and the ASEAN-China-Japan-Korea (10+3) Media Cooperation Forum is of special importance to us. We believe that the ASEAN-China-Japan-Korea (10+3) framework brings ASEAN, China, Japan and Korea together as a powerful engine for regional understanding and common prosperity. By promoting “Asian awareness” and applying “Eastern wisdom”, we are able to address regional and global challenges in a way that highlights our common cultural heritage and values. In the age of AI, we also face unprecedented opportunities and new challenges. While AI-driven tools can significantly improve our efficiency and scope of dissemination, the application of these tools must be based on strong ethical guidelines, human supervision and accountability. Cambodia's National News Agency is committed to deepening cooperation with various media partners under the framework of "the belt and road initiative" and within the scope of cooperation between ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea (10 +3). By sharing experiences, best practices and accurate information, we can jointly meet the current challenges, promote mutual learning among civilizations, and contribute to building a more harmonious, more informed and more closely connected region. We look forward to fruitful discussions, strengthening our career networks, and participating in subsequent media seminars. Such opportunities are valuable in enhancing our professional skills, exploring new technologies, and experiencing China’s dynamics and achievements. In this interconnected world, media influence goes far beyond the news headlines. Every story we choose to tell, and every story we choose not to tell, affects people’s perception of each other. We must take this responsibility seriously. For Cambodia, this means continuing to promote objective reporting, supporting the capacity building of our national journalists, and becoming more actively involved in regional and global media cooperation. When we leave Kunming, let's further strengthen our commitment: uphold truthful reporting, maintain respect for dialogue, innovate working methods, unite as one, and fulfill the professional mission of bringing people all over the world closer. Working together, we will ensure that the media will always be not divisors of civilization, but strong and solid bridges between different civilizations, paving the way for peace, mutual understanding and common prosperity.
