Breaking-News >> WorldNews China calls on international community to maintain dialogue with the Afghan government
Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, September 17th Geng Shuang, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made a speech at the public meeting of the Security Council on Afghanistan on the 17th, calling on the international community to maintain contact and dialogue with the Afghan government and enhance mutual understanding and trust. Geng Shuang said that at present, the situation in Afghanistan is generally stable, while it still faces multiple challenges such as humanity, development, human rights and anti-terrorism. The international community should treat the Afghan issue in an objective, fair, rational and pragmatic manner, strengthen unity and build consensus, and help Afghanistan get on the right track at an early date and integrate into the international community. Due to historical and practical reasons, the mutual integration between the international community and Afghanistan can only be gradual and long-term. In this regard, positive interaction and continuous contact between the two sides are indispensable. It is a matter of concern that one country has recently repeatedly and exclusively blocked the travel ban exemption application of senior Afghan government officials on the grounds that the Afghan authorities detained its citizens, which has seriously interfered with the normal exchanges between Afghanistan and the international community. This unabashed use of the Security Council's sanctions tools to serve national interests has aroused dissatisfaction among many Security Council members. China advises this country to change this practice as soon as possible, and once again calls on the Afghanistan Sanctions Committee of the Security Council to restart the package travel ban exemption arrangement as soon as possible. Geng Shuang pointed out that the terrorist threat facing Afghanistan is still outstanding. China calls on the Afghan government to intensify anti-terrorism efforts, strengthen anti-terrorism cooperation with regional countries, and prevent terrorist organizations from using Afghan territory to endanger the security of other countries. On the issue of anti-terrorism, we must resolutely oppose double standards or selective practices and safeguard the overall situation of international anti-terrorism cooperation. Geng Shuang emphasized that China calls on relevant countries to unconditionally return the overseas assets of the central bank of Afghanistan. China supports Afghanistan in continuing to strengthen connectivity and economic and trade cooperation with regional countries. China calls on traditional donors to increase financial investment and stop politicizing humanitarian relief. China urges individual countries to shoulder their historical responsibilities, resume aid to Afghanistan, stop unilateral sanctions, and provide due support for humanitarian actions. China calls on the Afghan government to moderate and inclusive governance and take effective measures to safeguard the fundamental rights and interests of all Afghan people, including women. As a friendly neighbor of Afghanistan, China is willing to continue to work with all parties to make unremitting efforts to promote peaceful development and long-term peace in Afghanistan.
