According to Philippine media reports, Philippine House Speaker Martin Romualdes announced his resignation on 17 September for his involvement in a corruption scandal.

Romualdez is the cousin of Philippine President Marcos. He said in a statement on the same day that he resigned to better cooperate with the anti-corruption investigation.

According to Philippine media reports, Romualdez and several lawmakers were accused of being involved in the scandal of abuse of funds for flood control infrastructure projects.

On September 8th, Philippine Senate President Escudero was dismissed due to a corruption scandal.
