On November 15, 1858, Li Xubin's troops suddenly attacked Chen Yucheng's camp and rushed past Jinniu to suppress it. Chen Yucheng, Li Xiucheng, Sanhe defender Wu Dinggui, and three troops and horses broke through the enemy camp and annihilated more than 6,000 Qing troops. Li Xubin, who was fierce for a while, had no choice but to hang himself. In May, 1860, Chen Yucheng and Li Xiucheng broke the bamboo and quickly liberated most areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Almost all the Qing troops in the south of the Yangtze River collapsed, and Qing generals He Chun and others committed suicide in despair. In 1861, Chen Yucheng stationed troops in Jixianguan, a stronghold outside Anqing. Zeng Guofan concentrated his main forces to besiege Anqing.
